"With a little bit of rope and a pocket-knife."

Thursday night Joel (a fellow trainee) & I decided to go on an adventure. I've had the bowfishing itch for about a month or so now, and Joel's gone with me as the paddle-man before. This would be our adventure for the night, with a little bit of a fun twist for Joel. Instead of just being the expert paddle-man, he brought a fishing pole so we could anchor the canoe and both be fishing.

We drove out around 10 PM to the resaca. The wind was blowing hard & it was quite cold. I told Joel "Even if we don't see any fish it will be quite the adventure!" We started off at one end of the resaca, but only saw one fish. We decided to paddle about half a mile back up the resaca to a better spot. This is when the real adventure began! The wind had really picked up by this point, and there were pretty decent waves that we had to fight our way up and over. It was really slow going, but definitely fun! I made the comment to Joel that we were like the men on the Shackleton voyage who had to do an open-boat journey on the trans-Anatarctic expedition.

We finally made it to the inlet. We spent a good amount of time fishing, but to no avail. We eventually got cold and made a little fire to warm ourselves. We soon decided to head back. The wind drove us all the way back, with little need for paddling. As we hauled the canoe out of the water, we both agreed that it was still totally a great adventure, even though we didn't get any fish!
