Jemimah just turned 1 a few weeks ago. She has been saying a few words for a while and knows how to say "all done," "please" and "more" in sign language. Lately we can tell she understands more and is starting to be able to communicate more. For example, today I was getting ready to go to the store and asked her if she wanted to come to me or stay with daddy, not actually expecting her to understand the question. But she waved "good-bye" to me and hugged her daddy and then said "daddy". It is amazing to watch how fast she is learning, especially as I try to learn new languages myself.
Something that we learned during a linguistics course at the CPCP was that knowing English grammar is very important for learning another language. One of our main tasks before moving overseas full-time is to study English grammar and to study linguistics. I have started reading a book called An Introduction to Language that was recommended to us by Pastor Greg Vancourt. He was the teacher of our linguistics class. I have really enjoyed it so far. It is easy to read and explains things clearly. After I read this book I plan to study more English grammar and maybe watch some School House Rock to help me remember more!
